Beach Baby Blues

I am really looking forward to meeting this recent San Francisco transplant at the flea this October 1st. Susan Wagner has an amazing collection of mixed media art that she has made from found items and materials. She believes in refurbishing salvage items to make one of a kind vignettes that tell interesting stories.

Check out her etsy site named Beach Baby Blues here!

Just in case you dont quite know where the Tee Pee Junction is. Hope to see you October 1st!

Who am I?

I have been contacted by several different vendors and asked, "just who are you?" So I thought I would write a post so you could get to know me better.

My name is Angela Longhurst, I was raised in NE Kansas, and have lived in Lawrence full time since 1995. I graduated from art school at KU, where I learned the foundations of design. With that knowledge, I work as a designer at a floral shop and also am the owner of my own upholstery business. Additionally, I work at the public library. If I ever entered school again, I would study interior design. I really enjoy reading blogs and books on how to mix different styles of furniture, pattern, and color. The best designs come from mixing up good solid antique and vintage pieces with modern touches of fabric, accessories, and art.

Together with my grandfather's estate sale and my mother's antique furniture addiction, I believe I was born into the idea that "they dont make things like they useto." After being raised by my mother dragging me into every antique store and flea market around, I learned the art of browsing and love of the hunt. I enjoy owning an item or piece of furniture that holds history and hopefully hearing a good story about its past from the vendor.

I am hoping that the market that I have started in Lawrence reflects my favorite open air flea markets, a place where a community of people can leave with a good story, a perfect item, and a full belly of flea food.

Now lets all just hope for great weather the first Saturday of every month!

The Lawrence Flea will be hosting two designers/artists at each event. Our first artist's name is Emmy Rice and she owns Typo! I have asked her a couple questions so that you can get to know her and additionally I have added some pictures of recent work that she has done for clients. She will be bringing to the flea some gift and holiday cards.

Bio:

Hello! I print all things letterpress, from wedding invites to baby announcements. This shop is the space where my love for letterpress, design, and family come together. When I am not printing, I put my MFA to work teaching and writing about graphic design.

Favorite Flea Market Find:

1 stained pink chair a friend helped me recover and now sits proudly in my living room.

What do you collect?

Type! I'm a complete nut for typography and grab and old wood type that I see!

Welcome to the Lawrence Flea blog

With the October 1st launch date just alittle over a month away, we have decided to start a blog that will serve as both a way for you to stay up on news of the Flea, and also a way to solicit feedback on many of the decisions we have to make.
The Lawrence Flea will be held at the historic Tee Pee's north of Lawrence, it is also named Tee Pee Junction because it is very near the intersection of Hwy 24 and Hwy 40.
We are looking for vendors and shoppers who are interested in antiques, collectibles, repurposed furniture, vintage clothing and jewelry. In addition, we also invite our local artists and designers to vend.
Right now, in Lawrence Flea's pilot phase, we will run the first Saturday of every month, 9-4pm, seasonally. (The market will not be open December, January, Febuary, or March.)
If you are a vendor who would like more information please send me an email at lawrenceflea@gmail.com.
